A technical SEO audit is not a domain appraisal

A technical SEO audit answers: can Google fetch this site without tripping over itself? That is a real job. Google documents it under crawling and indexing. It is not an appraisal of the domain. Crawl errors do not make paywise.com cheap, and a perfect sitemap does not make a hyphenated leftover expensive.

This URL still says “technical SEO audits.” The address stays. I’m Mostapha; I buy and sell names from Morocco. I have been sent Screaming Frog exports as if they were comps. They are not. Comps are on NameBio. The letters go in the Domain Value Checker first. FAQ.

What an audit is allowed to tell you

If you operate a business on the name: robots.txt blocking the site, a broken canonical chain, mixed http/https, a staging copy indexed — those can hide a working company. Fix them. Google’s robots.txt primer and Search Console are the right tools. None of that rewrites length, extension, brand, demand.

If you are buying or selling the name, a seller waving “clean crawl, DR, zero 404s” is changing the subject. Open Wayback and the checker. A flawless crawl on a spam past is still a spam past. History first. DR is not a price — we already argued that here.

Audits that waste an investor’s week

  • Hreflang on a one-language lander.
  • Core Web Vitals on a page whose only job is “for sale.” Speed of a lander is politeness, not a multiple — slow sites rarely reprice the domain.
  • Orphan-page reports on a host you will not keep after escrow. The buyer often wants a push, not your URL inventory.

Do not 301 a junk host onto a clean name “to pass the audit.” That is how you import a problem. Extra names that fight the keeper belong in the cannibalization / extra-domains piece, not in a crawl spreadsheet.

A short audit that is actually about the asset

  1. Checker: are the letters worth holding?
  2. Wayback + trademarks: can you sell them without a dispute? UDRP.
  3. Live hostname: does anything embarrassing load for a buyer who types the name today? If yes, park or lander. Do not start a three-week technical SEO program on a name you should drop.
  4. Search Console only if you control it and the history is part of the story you will disclose.

That is an appraisal sequence. A full-site crawl is a webmaster sequence. Keep them in different folders. If you are still deciding whether to bid, checker before you buy beats another audit template.
